ABSTRACT
Abstract This study illustrated the importance of smoothed vertical layers and orthogonal grids in an terrain‐following coordinate (an OTF ‐coordinate) reducing advection errors over steep terrain. Three coordinates, namely, classic coordinate, hybrid ( HTF ‐coordinate, were employed Schär‐type experiments for various terrains. The results demonstrated that ‐coordinate could diminish with high skewness terrain; share same layers. Therefore, are considerably reduced than those corresponding
