ABSTRACT
Abstract Although the adverse impacts of health‐related stigma are well established, there is growing evidence to suggest that some people reject and become empowered through involvement in education advocacy. C‐een Heard ( C & H ) a positive speaking programme Sydney, Australia, using educational presentations by living with hepatitis increase understanding illness among health community workers. This study explored speakers' experiences responses stigma, as their motivations participate programme. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted nine speakers. Transcripts analysed an inductive thematic approach. Experiences discrimination common especially healthcare linked misinformation negative attitudes towards injecting drug use. discriminatory distressing, many participants reacted anger challenged stigmatised identity, ultimately leading take part speaking. Speakers reported feeling participation support received from audience members, peers organisers.
