ABSTRACT
Abstract The aim of the present study was to measure plasma uric acid (UA) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px) xanthine oxidase (XO) activities evaluate relationship between these parameters severity pre‐eclampsia. Twenty‐five pre‐eclamptic, 15 healthy pregnant non‐pregnant women were enrolled in this study. Increased mean XO activity found be higher both pre‐eclampsia groups than group. Plasma UA highest severe group among groups. SOD GSH‐Px significantly lower ( p < 0.005 0.001, respectively). decreased may contribute pathophysiological mechanisms increased serve a protective role responding radicals arising from or other sources Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
