ABSTRACT
Abstract Scientists face many severe challenges in extracting value from the increasingly large volumes of data they generate. In this paper we describe requirements have derived working across a wide range e‐science projects. particular, CARMEN neuroinformatics project has exposed due to need analyse and share data. We identified four key activities required by scientists with whom work, designed an integrated system—e‐Science Central—to provide them. This exploits three emerging technologies: software as service avoid for users deploy maintain any their own software; social networking allow collaborate sharing data, services workflows controlled manner Cloud computing scalable compute resources. The system can not only be used through web browser, but also provides API so that applications build on core functionality. requirements, design flows includes storage in‐built versioning signing, in‐browser workflow editor job scheduling allows run both local ‘private’ clouds Microsoft Azure Cloud.
