ABSTRACT
Summary Presented in this paper is a new hardware architecture of the adaptive vector median filter (AVMF). The suggested structure yielded important values impulsive noise removal from color images while preserving their fine details. software (SW) study demonstrated that its implementation too complex. To overcome limitation, some approximations using ROM memory were proposed to perform square root for (HW) implementation. Comparative results between ideal and approximated SWs AVMF showed relative error equal 0.01 % . Then, sequential parallel HW architectures developed based on method. Finally, validation these was conducted an field‐programmable gate array (FPGA) platform HW/SW environment. can speed up execution time 180 times worst case at 140 MHz compared SW solution as well high data quality (same image quality).
