ABSTRACT
Abstract This research aims to investigate synergistic and antagonistic antioxidant interactions for binary mixtures of common monoterpenes. The activity was determined spectrophotometrically with the use DPPH • assay. Significant synergism, between two different monoterpenes, observed a mixture inactive p ‐cymene one compounds, characterized by moderate activity, e.g. (±)‐citronellal, α ‐phellandrene or ‐terpinene. It has been proven that (±)‐citronellal is increased in presence hydrocarbons possessing aromatic nucleophilic ring, which may react electrophiles. A possible reaction mechanism proposed effect (±)‐citronellal. opens new perspectives studying isoprene derivatives, found essential oils. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
