ABSTRACT
Abstract Background In current practice, surgeons frequently deal with elderly patients who have severe medical comorbidities. Methods We present our series of 18 consecutive general comorbidities that received infrahyoid flap reconstruction. The results were compared those 16 in good state receiving free radial forearm reconstruction during the same study period. also describe an original method for tongue base using flap. Results No total necrosis was experienced; successful separation between oral cavity/oropharyngeal contents and neck spaces obtained all a low rate complications. significant differences found regard to verbal intelligibility diet scores groups. Conclusions Infrahyoid high‐risk cases represents valid alternative introduced novel technical innovation very encouraging results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck, 2012
