ABSTRACT
To investigate the role of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in pediatric fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) after launch universal HBV vaccination, authors analyzed data from patients with FHF collected a nationwide collaborative study group. Children aged 1 month to 15 years who were diagnosed (62 males and 33 females) between 1985-1999 included. (hepatitis surface antigen [HBsAg] and/or immunoglobulin M core antibody [IgM anti-HBc] seropositive) accounted for 46% (43 95 cases) all cases FHF. The average annual incidence time period was 0.053/100,000 group ages 1-15 1.29/100,000 those age < year. Approximately 61% (58 infants. percentage found be higher infants (57%) compared children (27%) ( P = 0.004). rate ratio year 54.2 HBV-positive 15.2 HBV-negative Maternal HBsAg positive 97% FHF, e (HBeAg) negative 84% these 74% 81% infantile had been vaccinated. In conclusion, within first rarely cause > but remained significant prone develop born HBeAg-negative, HBsAg-carrier mothers; not received according vaccination program place.
