Sustaining maternal and child health programs when donor funding ends: A case study of stakeholder involvement in Indonesia

ABSTRACT
There has been a dearth of evidence in exploring the role stakeholders making transition process from donor to local responsibility successful relation maternal and child health programs date. This study aimed generate practical experiences concerning stakeholder involvement sustaining when support ends, so as lead systematic strategies for supporting success post-transition capture critical challenges programme's sustainability. employed Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with district healthcare such hospital managers, officers, community centres, associations authorities. In-depth interviews one authority, staff, informal leaders, traditional birth attendants were conducted. From final research project sample participants, we extracted analyse their narratives. Content analysis revealed 5 main themes FGDs interviews: (1) Stakeholders' collaborative culture organisational capacity; (2) commitment; (3) Challenges partnership coordination; (4) Barriers sustainable financial (5) Policy maintaining institutionalisation. Two areas concern priorities follow-up sustain neonatal care programme factors responsible continuation funding specifically longevity engagement commitment internal resource capacity long-term implementation. Recommendations include increased networking active cooperation all levels administration, especially top-down approach involving national, provincial, down community-based networks.
