ABSTRACT
Climate variability and human activity were regarded as two contributors to streamflow alteration. However, the contributions of factors still unclear in Dongting Lake. Therefore, it was crucial quantify relative impact climate on The time series (1961–2010) divided into three periods, namely, natural period (1961–1980), change I (1981–2002) II (2003–2010). Sensitivity analysis based Budyko-type equations applied reveal those respectively. results showed that during I, main factor responsible for alteration most parts Lake, accounting 60.07–67.27%. slightly smaller than West Lake (the former 43.20% while latter 56.80%). For II, dominate alteration, 58.89–78.33%. gradually decreased increased. Along with intensification activity, became more dominant. could provide a reference water resources planning management decisions. Under condition uncontrollable climatic factor, effective measures should be put forward controlling such reservoir/dam operation, closed protected area so on. Besides, is essential study future resource under different scenarios. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
