ABSTRACT
Abstract Cigarette smoking is an established risk factor for pancreatic cancer. However, prospective data most European countries are lacking, and epidemiologic studies on exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) in relation cancer scarce. We examined the association of cigarette ETS with within Prospective Investigation into Cancer Nutrition (EPIC). This analysis was based 465,910 participants, including 524 first incident cases diagnosed after a median follow‐up 8.9 years. Estimates were obtained by Cox proportional hazard models adjusted weight, height, history diabetes mellitus. An increased found current smokers compared never (HR = 1.71, 95% CI 1.36–2.15), greater intensity pack‐years. Former who quit less than 5 years at 1.78, 1.23–2.56), but comparable quitting or more. Pancreatic among daily exposed (for many hours) during childhood 2.61, 0.96–7.10) home and/or work 1.54, 1.00–2.39). These results suggest that both active smoking, as well ETS, associated reduced levels quitting.
