ABSTRACT
Abstract CD43 is the major leukocyte sialoglycoprotein that plays important functional roles in neutrophils and lymphocytes. However, expression of on human natural killer (NK) cells its participation regulation NK activity has not been studied. We have therefore investigated isoforms cell subpopulations as well role this molecule activation cytotoxicity. found CD56bright CD56dim express different sialylated forms CD43, observing induces change tetrasaccharide O-glycans to hexasaccha-ride CD43. Cross-linking with mAbs results a metalloprotease-dependent loss from surface, whereas soluble anti-CD43 induce vigorous proliferation. This property distinct T cells, which proliferate after cross-linking only presence monocytes. Occupancy receptor transduces specific signals, leading enhanced killing tyrosine phosphorylation de-phosphorylation several substrates. propose significantly contributes function by participating control effector/target interactions and, if pertinent, transducing signals.
