ABSTRACT
Abstract Four indole derivatives synthesized from 2‐keto glycosides were analyzed by electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS n ) with low‐energy collision‐induced dissociation to establish a general structural elucidation of derivatives. Their fragmentation pathways are proposed on the basis MS studies and deuterium‐labeled experiments. Indole undergo complicated gas‐phase rearrangements in addition simple bond cleavages. A rearrangement, which involves contraction six‐membered ring, was observed mechanism proposed. The observations may have some potential applications interpretation spectra Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
