ABSTRACT
Abstract The phenotypic expression of various neural cells is influenced by extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules. This study aims to develop a three‐dimensional gel tailored support neurite extension from cells. Laminin‐derived (LN) oligopeptides CDP‐GYIGSR, 19‐mer IKVAV containing sequence, GRGDSP, cocktail the three aforementioned LN peptides (PEPMIX), and control peptide sequence GGGGG were covalently linked an agarose hydrogel backbone using bi‐functional coupling agent 1′1, carbonyldiimidazole. Embryonic day 9 chick DRGs PC12 suspended in dimensions underivatized derivatized gels was analyzed. Agarose with CDPGYIGSR PEPMIX enhanced outgrowth while GRGDSP inhibited when compared gels. significantly comparison other hydrogels carrying immobilized thus evoke specific responses which contain receptors used. promoting sequences may find applications models vivo regeneration nervous tissue. © 1995 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
