ABSTRACT
Abstract The phase evolution of zirconia (ZrO 2 ), sulfated (SO 4 2− /ZrO ) and yttrium oxide incorporated (Y O 3 –ZrO from the tetrahedral to monoclinic was studied using UV Raman spectroscopy, visible spectroscopy x‐ray diffraction (XRD). It is clearly observed that there are discrepancies between results spectra, spectra XRD patterns. change tetragonal always earlier or at lower calcination temperatures as by than XRD. found be more sensitive surface region while supply information mainly bulk. inconsistency in three techniques suggests transformation starts its then gradually develops into For SO Y , significantly retarded owing presence groups oxide. Particularly, can maintained up 800 °C although changed 500 °C. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
