ABSTRACT
Abstract More than 70 molecules of varied nature have been identified in the envelopes carbon‐rich stars through their spectral fingerprints microwave or far infrared regions. Many them are carbon chain and radicals, a significant number unique to circumstellar medium. The determination relevant laboratory kinetics data is critical keep up with development high spatial resolution observations refinement chemical models. Neutral–neutral reactions CN radical unsaturated hydrocarbons could be dominant route formation cyanopolyynes, even at low temperatures deserve detailed investigation. approach we developed aims bridge temperature gap between resistively heated flow tubes shock tubes. present kinetic measurements obtained using new reactor combining high‐enthalpy source tube pulsed laser photolysis–laser‐induced fluorescence system probe undergoing reactions. has used measure rate constant reaction propane (C 3 H 8 ), propene 6 allene 4 1,3‐butadiene (1,3‐C 1‐butyne ) over range extending from 300 1200 K. All studied rapid, coefficients greater 10 −10 cm · molecule −1 s exhibit slight negative dependence above room temperature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Chem Kinet 44: 753–766,
