ABSTRACT
Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) has recently been used in clinical oncology thanks to recent developments of accelerator-based BNCT systems. Although there are some specific processes for BNCT, they have not yet discussed detail. The aim this study is provide comprehensive data on the risk system institutions planning implement an system. In study, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) was performed based a treatment process map prepared system. A multidisciplinary team consisting medical doctor (MD), registered nurse (RN), two physicists (MP), three radiologic technologists (RT) identified modes (FMs). Occurrence (O), severity (S), detectability (D) were scored scale 10, respectively. For each (FM), priority number (RPN) calculated by multiplying values O, S, D, it then categorized as high risk, very other. Additionally, FMs statistically compared terms countermeasures, associated occupations, whether or patient-derived.The 165 which 30 17 classified 71 BNCT-specific 18 5 The countermeasures "Education" "Confirmation" significantly higher S than others (p = 0.019). As facilities expected increase, staff education even more important. Comparing patient-derived other FMs, O tended be FMs. This could because non-patient-derived included events that controlled software, whereas impossible prevent might also depend patient's condition. Alternatively, with difficult detect mechanically risk. In 0.096) found from MD RN much patient intervention MP RT less intervention. conventional radiotherapy although comparable same different They related differences physical characteristics modalities. This first report conducting using FMEA. Thus, provides needed quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) considering implementation future. Because many risks discussed, important understand take adequate measures advance. If all team, will possible against individual perspectives safely effectively.
