ABSTRACT
Objective Human brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity has been typically evaluated by 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) combined with computed (CT). However, FDG-PET/CT serious limitations (e.g., radiation and cold exposure). This study BAT density using near-infrared time-resolved spectroscopy (NIRTRS), a simple noninvasive method of measuring the indices hemoglobin concentration [total-Hb] mitochondrial (µs′). Methods The NIRTRS parameters at 760, 800, 830 nm in supraclavicular region potentially containing were evaluated. First, compared 27°C during 2-h exposure (19°C) 18 men. Then, mean standardized uptake values (SUVmean) assessed after 29 Results There was no significant difference between 19°C. µs′ significantly correlated to SUVmean (r = 0.73 r 0.64, respectively). A receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that sensitivity (75.0-82.4%), specificity (91.7-100%), accuracy (82.8-86.2%) all good determine reliability. Conclusions Our novel is can reliably assess human region.
