Skipping breakfast and 5-year changes in body mass index and waist circumference in Japanese men and women

ABSTRACT
Objective This study investigated the relationship between frequency of skipping breakfast and annual changes in body mass index (BMI) waist circumference (WC). Methods The participants were 4,430 factory employees. BMI WC measured repeatedly at medical examinations over a 5-year period. association baseline examination anthropometric indices was evaluated using generalized estimating equation method. Results mean (standard deviation) 23.3 (3.0) kg m−2 for men 21.9 (3.6) women; 82.6 (8.7) cm 77.8 (9.8) women. During follow-up period, increased by 0.2 women, 1.1 1.0 change who skipped four to six times per week 0.061 higher, that those seven 0.046 compared with did not skip breakfast.
