ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Purpose Nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be associated with severe renal complications, including acute failure, reduced glomerular filtration rate and interstitial nephritis. Caution against NSAIDs is therefore recommended in advanced chronic kidney disease. In this study, we examined NSAID use, aetiology comorbidity among a national cohort of patients before the initiation replacement therapy (RRT). Methods Patients initiated on RRT period 1997–2006 were identified Danish National Registry Regular Dialysis Transplantation, etiological diagnosis. The use start was studied by linkage to Prescription Register Patient Registry. Results A total 6663 included 2407 (36.1%) prescribed 3 years RRT. These older (mean age = 63.0 vs 61.4 years) had significantly higher degree (Charlson score 2.85 2.61, p < 0.05) compared not treated NSAIDs. leading up RRT, number each year cumulated median length treatment all stable at approximately 20% 40 days, respectively. Conclusions study nationwide group patients, observed widespread an unaffected high annual incidence Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
