ABSTRACT
Abstract BACKGROUND: The nature of the dispersion clay platelets in a resin composite will play an important role process enhancement physical properties that material. This paper examines how different modifiers and quantity surface treatment for Cloisite ® range organically modified clays affect situ polymerised poly(methyl methacrylate). Another which is mixture rod‐ platelet‐like minerals also investigated to understand shape particles can polymer properties. RESULTS: Five clays, including 30B 15A, were dispersed using ultrasound cure samples was monitored Strathclyde Rheometer. Rheology, transmission electron microscopy X‐ray diffraction used determine good level achieved. mixed mineral formed most stable seen from settling tests. CONCLUSIONS: accelerated presence organoclay, although less pronounced at higher temperatures. glass transition temperature increased by 20 °C with only few weight percent water uptake not adversely affected.
