ABSTRACT
Abstract Particle‐dispersed melting is a complex but important mechanism in the corotating twin‐screw extruder. In this study, multi‐particle‐dispersed system was simplified into single‐particle model. The finite‐difference method introduced to solve problem. simulation results show that of particle may involve two steps: heating stage and stage. time depend on solid concentration, initial melt temperature, shear rate. Calculations indicate high concentration low temperature rate will result more uniform distribution after polymer melting. model offers valuable information for designing zone extruder, especially at screw speed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
