Impact of perceived social support on the mental health and health‐related quality of life in cancer patients: results from a nationwide, multicenter survey in South Korea

ABSTRACT
Abstract Objective We investigated whether and how perceived social support is associated with depression quality of life among patients various cancer diagnoses. Methods Data were collected from 1930 treated at the National Cancer Center nine regional centers across Korea. The Duke‐UNC functional scale was used to measure support, PHQ‐9 EORTC QLQ‐C30 patients' levels life, respectively. Results Subjects low reported significantly higher depression, lower scores on all scales, three symptom global health/quality scores, most single items than subjects high support. There no interaction between potential stressors supporting main effect model as mechanism that reduce adverse psychological outcomes. Conclusion Perceived mental health in patients, through direct rather stress‐buffering effect. Interventions enhance might be helpful for improving QOL patients.
