Courses on mechanical ventilation in pediatrics: First experience in Spain

ABSTRACT
To analyse the initial experience in mechanical ventilation courses held by Respiratory Group of Spanish Paediatric Intensive Care Society.From 2002 to 2006, 15 on paediatric were eight hospitals Spain, attended a total 367 physicians (53.4 % trainees and 46.6 staff from Paediatrics, Neonatology or Emergency). An theoretical written test 40 questions was completed participants, followed short theory classes practical workshops based clinical situations, with ventilators simulators, five seven students per workshop. At end course participants test, which it considered necessary answer correctly at least 70% questions, evaluation (with assessment grades 1 5) survey about quality 0 10).In only 20% answered correctly, whilst final 93% hit this target, (p < 0.001). In evaluation, 96% demonstrated sufficient acquisition skills (grades equal greater than 3). participant survey, methodology rated 8.7 +/- 0.5, organisation 0.4, teaching 9.2 0.2, 0.4 sessions 8.8 0.3.Mechanical are useful educational method for health professionals ventilation.
