Abstract In the Indian traditional system of medicine Withania somnifera Dun. is widely regarded as Ginseng. A new withanolide‐free hydrosoluble fraction was isolated from roots and evaluated for putative antistress activity against a battery tests to delineate this fraction. The latter exhibited significant in dose‐related manner (Singh et al. , 2001) further studied chemical physical induced stress rats mice. extract root (a commercial preparation available locally) also used compare results. preliminary acute toxicity study mice showed good margin safety with high therapeutic index.
