Antinociceptive and antiinflammatory activities of grandisin extracted from Virola surinamensis

ABSTRACT
The antinociceptive and antiinflammatory properties of the neolignan, grandisin, isolated from Virola surinamensis (Myristicaceae) were investigated. Grandisin (GRA) is present in several plant species Brazil used popular medicine for treatment disorders such as colic, inflammation, rheumatism, dyspepsia liver dysfunction. These studies demonstrated that GRA able to inhibit acetic acid-induced writhing mice dose-dependently, this effect not caused by motor incoordination or sedation due depressant CNS. Through formalin test activity was characterized, substance reduced time licking paw 60.5% (only second phase (inflammatory pain). This also verified oil-induced ear oedema test, where 10.0 mg/kg 36.4%. results suggest has effects arising activity.
