ABSTRACT
Austroplenckia populnea (Reiss.) Lund. is a Brazilian Cerrado plant belonging to the Celastraceae family. Hexane and methanol extracts of leaves were investigated for their antiulcerogenic (ethanol indomethacin/bethanecol induced gastric damage) analgesic (writhing tail-flick tests) activities in mice. Acute toxic effects also evaluated. Oral administration both at dose 1000 mg/kg significantly reduced total area lesion, relative lesion ulcerative index ethanol-induced damage, but inactive indomethacin/bethanecol-induced damage test. A dependent effect was determined with hexane extract lesions The number contortions writhing test, immersion
