ABSTRACT
Abstract Aristolochic acid derivatives (AAs) and aristolactam (ALs) have been characterized by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, their fragmentation pathways are proposed. ALs exhibit a single product [M+H] + , whereas AAs show multiple products. By optimizing the chromatographic separation spectrometric parameters, precursor ions of with best responses were found, sensitivities in determination nine improved. Based on investigation behaviour, HPLC‐DAD/ESI‐MS (high‐performance liquid chromatography‐photodiode array detection/electrospray spectrometry) method has developed for simultaneous analysis derivatives, i.e., AA I, II, C, D, 7‐OH aristolic AL AII, IIIa IVa, medicinal herbs two preparations. The appears to be suitable safety assurance quality control commercially available samples good selectivity sensitivity. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
