ABSTRACT
The goal of this study is to provide new insights into the corrosion mechanism core‐shell carbides containing steels. behavior two heat‐treated Cr–W–V–Mo‐rich stainless steels evaluated using electrochemical techniques. studied have different microstructure, first has core–shell (Cr 7 C 3 –Cr 23 6 ) in a ferritic matrix, while second conventional Cr duplex matrix. open‐circuit potential results show nobler sample; it noticed potentiodynamic polarization curves where steel an oxidation peak at −0.37 V versus saturated calomel electrode with current density 0.19 mA cm −2 , contrary that shows passive behavior. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy demonstrates presence degradation mechanisms carbide steel, other governed by charge transfer only. These findings are supported scanning electron microscopy examination preferential shell core and matrix kept intact. film stability Mott–Schottky analysis higher defect on steel.
