ABSTRACT
Abstract The mechanisms underlying fluoride‐induced apoptosis in neurons still remain unknown. To investigate apoptosis, caspase‐3 activity, and mRNA expression of Fas, Fas‐L, caspases (‐3 ‐8) induced by fluoride, human neuroblastoma (SH‐SY5Y) cells were incubated with 0, 20, 40, 80 mg/L sodium fluoride (NaF) for 24 h vitro . data show that cell viability the 40 groups significantly lower than control group. percentages markedly higher those group, they increased increase concentration. activity levels An agonistic anti‐Fas monoclonal antibody (CH‐11) augmented induction showing a synergistic effect, while Fas‐blocking (ZB4) partly inhibited SH‐SY5Y cells. results indicate exposure could induce cells, Fas/Fas‐L signaling pathway may play an important role process. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
