ABSTRACT
Abstract Objectives To determine whether progesterone supplementation alters cervical shortening in women at increased risk for preterm birth. Methods We performed a planned secondary analysis from large, multinational birth prevention trial of daily intravaginal gel, 90 mg, com‐ pared with placebo history spontaneous or premature shortening. Transvaginal length measurements were obtained all randomized patients baseline (18 + 0 to 22 6 weeks' gestation) and 28 gestation. For this analysis, the difference between these time points was compared study population (≤ 30 mm) randomization. Differences groups 28‐week examination analyzed using ANCOVA, including adjustment relevant clinical parameters maternal characteristics. Results Data 547 The progesterone‐treated had significantly less than group (difference 1.6 (95% CI, 0.3–3.0) mm; P = 0.02, ANCOVA). In 104 subjects randomization, also differed on multivariable treatment preserving more 3.3 0.3–6.2) 0.03, ANCOVA), differences screening. A significant observed categorical outcomes frequency progression ≤ 25 mm ≥ 50% reduction subpopulation. Conclusions Intravaginal enhances preservation high Copyright © 2009 ISUOG.
