ABSTRACT
Abstract Objectives Increased concentration of endogenous estrogen during a typical menstrual cycle has been shown to correlate with augmentation blood flow through the internal carotid arteries (ICAs), which may be related changes in vascular resistance within brain. In this study we investigated effects and progesterone on cerebrovascular impedance young healthy women. Methods The ICA common (CCA) external (ECA) was studied duplex Doppler sonography. index (RI) determined correlated plasma 17β‐estradiol 14 women throughout their cycle. Results increased follicular phase reached peak day 14, whereas remained low. Along an increase concentration, RI had decreased from its initial level average by 9.2% 13 6.7% ( P < 0.05). contrast, trend ECA concentration. There were no significant CCA or systolic pressure, heart rate, hematocrit hemoglobin Conclusions Estrogen‐related is caused mainly impedance, as decrease RI. These suggest that influences cerebral altering microvasculature. Copyright © 2003 ISUOG. Published John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
