ABSTRACT
In August 1990 an orthopox virus (OPV) had been isolated from a severe case of generalized infection with lethal outcome in immunosup-pressed 18-year-old man. this communication we present detailed characterization the causative strain. Based on distinct epitope configurations detected by various monoclonal antibodies isolate could be differentiated other OPV species and was classified as cowpox (CP). This classification confirmed species-specific PCR assay establishing physical maps for restriction enzymes HindIII XhoI. serological data neutralization assays, blocking-ELISAs Western blotting analysis evidence is provided that beed acquired stray cat.
