ABSTRACT
Thus, the data of the present review lead to the conclusion that the pretransition phenomena observed on the verge of SPTs have the character of an intraphase transformation usually of the second or higher order and are observed both before low-temperature martensite transformations and in other temperature intervals. These intraphase transformations are associated with the harmonic “softening” of the crystal lattice, which may be both isotropic and anisotropic. The directions of the lattice “softening” coincide with the expected directions of its rearrangement. At the martensite transformation temperature the residual phase, too, undergoes a phase transformation, while the lattice “softening” observed during intraphase transformations increases.
