ABSTRACT
The life cycle and growth ofPotamogeton crispus L. were studied in a shallow pond, Ojaga-ike. With respect to the shoot elongation seed turion formations, of this plant pond could be divided into following five stages: germination, inactive growth, active reproductive dormant stages. It was suggested that showed these successive stages depending mainly upon water temperature. turions germinated on bottom autumn when temperature fell below ca. 20 C. hardly any during winter (December—early March) 10 In spring rose above C (mid-March), started grow again elongated rapidly at rate 4.2 cm day−1 until apex reached surface late April. Both increment node number internodal associated with rapid growth. On May (last sampling date), mean values length, length nodes estimated for predominant plants 238.2±5.6 cm, 7.1±0.8 34.9±4.0 respectively. formation flowering occurred period from mid-April mid-May ranged 19 22 dry weight maximum value 1180 mg May. At its peak biomass, an individual produced 1–10 (5.5 average) which 53.2 mg. accounted 42% total biomass m−2 time.
