ABSTRACT
Paradoxical contraction of the puborectalis muscle during simulated defecation straining (anismus) has been cited as a cause constipation. The functional specificity this phenomenon was evaluated in 79 patients, 50 with constipation, 21 idiopathic perineal pain, and eight solitary rectal ulcer syndrome. Electromyogram evidence paradoxical observed 38 (76 percent), ten (48 four (50 percent) these respectively. All patients syndrome had difficulty defecating; normal all pain. These observations suggest that is not specific finding, it sole constipation anismus.
