ABSTRACT
An efficient protocol for micropropagation of sugarcane from shoot tip explants has been described. Shoot regeneration from inoculated shoot tip explants (40–60%) was obtained on MS medium containing BAP, Kinetin and GA3 (0.5 mg/l each). Numerous shoots were developed from the established explants on MS liquid medium + BAP + Kinetin (0.5 mg/l each). Profuge rooting of shoots was achieved on 1/2 strength MS salts + NAA (5.0 mg/l) + sucrose (60g/l) within 30–40 days. After hardening, the plantlets were field transplanted at 60 cm distances in rows 75 cm apart. The plants showed uniform growth and asynchronous tillering within 60 days of transplantation.
