ABSTRACT
Abstract Complex processes meet and need Industry 4.0 capabilities. Shorter product cycles, flexible production needs, direct assessment of quality attributes raw material call for an increased new process analytical technologies (PAT) concepts. While individual PAT tools may be available since decades, we holistic concepts to fulfill above industrial needs. In this series two contributions, want present a combined view on the future (process technology), which is projected in smart labs (Part 1) sensors 2). Part 2 feature article describes functionality as well ingredients sensor aiming eventually fuel full functionality. The consists (i) chemical information physical twin by field devices, measuring multiple components, fully connected IIoT environment. addition, (ii) it includes intelligence digital twin, being able generate knowledge from multi-sensor multi-dimensional data. cyber-physical system (CPS) combines both elements mentioned allows self-calibrating self-optimizing. It maintains its operation autonomously. Furthermore, allows—as central enabler—a but also target-oriented predictive control strategy efficient development can compensate variations attributes. Future systems—like sensors—consist fusion main pillars, twins. We discuss such connectivity, analytics one hand hybrid models workflows other. Finally, integration needs CPS order allow versatile deployment advanced optimum control.
