ABSTRACT
Infusion reactions (IR) are commonly described side effects of infliximab (IFX) infusions, often leading to discontinuation IFX. This study aimed investigate the influence steroid premedication (PM) on incidence IR in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD) patients receiving IFX.A case-control two tertiary centers Amsterdam, The Netherlands, including PIBD PM with steroids was part standard care one center (PM+) but not other (PM-). Acute were divided into mild/severe and grade 1/2/3/4 for detailed exploration. Differences between subgroups assessed T or chi-square test. Multivariate logistic regression used assess associations incidence, correcting co-medication usage. We included 226 (91 PM+, 50% male, mean age at onset IBD 12.7 years), 3433 infusions. There no difference PM+ PM- (14.3% vs. 17.0% patients, p = 0.58) percentage infusions followed by (1.4% both subgroups). OR developing when using 1.06 (95% CI 0.49-2.27, 0.89), a 3 4 0.90 0.24-3.39, 0.88) usage. The low, did decrease this cohort Our results indicate that is indicated prevent IR.
