ABSTRACT
Serum α-fetoprotein concentration (AFP) might be a useful addition to morphologic criteria for selecting patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) liver transplantation (LT). The aim of this study was evaluate the role AFP in HCC at minimal risk posttransplant tumor recurrence setting existing criteria. This retrospective cohort based on 121 after LT performed single institution. evaluated as predictor respect fulfillment Milan, University California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Up-to-7 criteria. There nearly linear association between (p < 0.001 effect; p = 0.434 nonlinear effect). predicted (1) beyond Milan 0.001; optimal cutoff 200 ng/ml); (2) within UCSF 100 ng/ml) them 0.015; (3) 0.023; but not 0.834). Patients either level <100 ng/ml exhibited superior (100 %) 5-year recurrence-free survival-significantly higher than those 0.005) or 0.001) levels estimated cutoffs less cutoffs.Combining an is associated recurrence. Hence, combination LT.
