ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose To assess radiation exposure in men undergoing prostate artery embolization (PAE) for the treatment symptomatic, benign prostatic hyperplasia depending on growing experience of interventional radiologists over a 4-year period. Methods A total 250 consecutive patients underwent PAE at single center. Data [dose area product (DAP), effective dose (ED), entrance skin (ESD), and fluoroscopy time (FT)] were retrospectively evaluated. Primary outcomes interest patient five groups 50 each Pearson correlation with number treated. Results Median DAP, ED, ESD during significantly higher first compared to second (56 298 µGym 2 vs. 24 709 , p < 0.001, 146.4 mSv 64.2 mSv, 5.1 Gy 2.4 Gy, respectively). The following did not differ from respective preceding group terms ESD. Number digital subtraction angiography series, FT, procedure decreased increasing operator (Pearson’s r = − 0.240, 0.269, 0.504, Bilateral was associated less shorter FT than unilateral (median 2.5 3.5 0.02, 26 min 42 min, Conclusion Exposure who decreasing complexity procedures.
