Changes in patterns of eating habits and food intake during the first German COVID-19 lockdown: results of a cross-sectional online survey

ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic and public measures have a direct impact on the nutrition situation; studies show changes in food consumption, eating behavior or body weight but complex pattern analyses of rarely exist.During first German lockdown, web-based survey was conducted among adults. It included 33 questions about intake, habits physical activity, as well anthropometrics sociodemographic factors. Patterns change were calculated based intake using two-step cluster analysis. To identify influencing factors for assignment to patterns change, binary logistic regression performed.Data from 2103 participants (81% female, 40 ± 14 years) considered Increased stockpiling, cooking, variation preparation reported by 50-70%. constant (C-P, 36%) little besides above. health-oriented (HO-P; 37%) more healthy foods, avoiding unhealthy less frequently. emotional-driven (ED-P; 28%) exhibits higher influence emotions behavior, avoidance increased consumption sweets, pastries, alcohol. odds changing either HO-P ED-P women, people with migration background, younger participants, BMI categories.Both, HO-P, exhibit distinctive reactions when dealing distressing experience.
