Characterisation of community-dwelling older adults with poor appetite

ABSTRACT
A poor appetite affects up to 27% of community-dwelling older adults in Europe and is an early predictor malnutrition. Little known about the factors associated with appetite. The present study, therefore, aims characterise appetite.As part European JPI project APPETITE, data from 850 participants, aged ≥ 70 years Longitudinal Ageing Study Amsterdam (LASA) 2015/16 were analysed. Appetite during last week was assessed a five-point scale dichotomised into "normal" "poor". Binary logistic regression used examine associations between 25 characteristics 5 domains-physiological, emotional, cognitive, social, lifestyle-and First, domain-specific models calculated using stepwise backward selection.
