ABSTRACT
Organ transplant recipients (OTRs) are at greater risk of basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) than non-OTRs, but histopathologic differences between BCCs in OTRs and the general population largely unknown. We compared clinicopathologic features vs Queensland, Australia. Details BCC tumors (site, size, level invasion, subtype, biopsy procedure) were collected from histopathology reports two prospective skin cancer studies, one general-population-based. used log-binomial regression models to estimate age- sex-adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for features. Overall, there 702 200 1725 804 cases. Of these, 327 128 higher (any head neck BCC; ≥ 2 cm on trunk/extremities), more per person 703 457 cases (chi-square p = 0.008). Among head/neck BCCs, likely have scalp/ear face/lip/neck (PR 1.5, 95%CI 1.2-1.8). Although aggressive subtypes less common among OTRs, invading beyond dermis almost twice as prevalent 1.8, CI 1.3-2.6) population.
