ABSTRACT
In addition to tumor factors, poor nutritional status before and during anti-tumor treatment might compromise prognosis in several types of cancer. This study was done determine the impact weight loss preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on survival outcome patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).The retrospective examined consecutive LARC who underwent CRT followed by radical resection a single institute, between 2003 2013. Correlation proportional body mass index (BMI) change after patient's demographics, characteristics, parameters, CRT-related toxicity, disease-free (DFS) overall (OS) were investigated.A total 364 enrolled, BMI found 243 (66.2 %) CRT. Severe (SWL) defined as ≥7 %. Thirty-nine (10.7 cases enrolled SWL cohort have higher incidence diarrhea (P = 0.033), renal disorder 0.033) grade 3-4 radiation proctitis 0.041). Although no significant difference 3-year DFS, showed significantly worse OS rate (71.8 vs 88.0 %, P 0.030) than others. univariate analysis, completed dose chemotherapy, pathologic T N stages correlated (all < 0.05). multivariable % (HR 1.984; 95 CI 1.061-3.709; 0.032) remained independent prognostic factor for OS.Our results demonstrate that indeed compromises LARC. Routine monitoring support are suggested integral part multidisciplinary approach these patients.
