Developing an e-learning course on the use of PRO measures in oncological practice: health care professionals’ preferences for learning content and methods

ABSTRACT
Implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in clinical routine requires knowledge and competences regarding their use. In order to facilitate implementation, an e-learning course for health care professionals (HCPs) on the utilisation European Organisation Research Treatment Cancer (EORTC) PROMs oncological practice is being developed. This study aimed explore future users' educational needs content learning methods.The sequential mixed methods approach was applied. A scoping literature review informed guideline qualitative interviews with HCPs diverse professional backgrounds oncology cancer advocates recruited using a purposive sampling strategy. An international online survey conducted validate findings.Between December 2019 May 2020, 73 were 9 countries resulting 8 topic areas (Basic information PROs routine, Benefits PRO assessments practice, Setup application, Interpretation data, Integration into communication patients, Use Self-management recommendations patients based PROs) subsequently presented survey. The (open between 3 June 19 July 2020) completed by 233 from 33 countries. highest preference indicated interpretation data (97%), benefits assessing (95.3%) implementation assessment (94.8%). Regarding methods, participants high practical examples that use presentation (written, audio, video interactive).Educational integration coherent strategies became evident. These results inform development support EORTC measures.
