ABSTRACT
Abstract We studied the petrographical characteristics and bulk chemical composition along with age of detrital zircon grains from quartzites exposed in western part Orlica-Śnieżnik dome Saxothuringian zone. Age spectra zircons were obtained by U–Pb laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry dating. The ages define a few clusters which most numerous are Cambro-Ordovician Neoproterozoic, less frequent Paleoproterozoic Archean. A distinctive feature investigated samples is lack Mesoproterozoic grains. youngest cluster documented points to Late Cambrian maximum depositional detritus derivation erosion metagranitoids. Bulk indicates that they originated owing granite within sedimentary basins developed on passive continental margin. Presented data prove similarity examined rocks known eastern quartz metasandstones other parts Variscan Belt Europe as Armorican or their equivalents Our results support suggestion has an affinity West African Craton Gondwana margin represents fragment
