ABSTRACT
Enhanced recovery after surgery is increasingly desired nowadays, and preoperative nutrient intake may be beneficial for this purpose. In study, we investigated whether the of carbohydrate with amino acid (ONS) solution can improve starvation status lipid catabolism before induction anesthesia. This randomized, prospective clinical trial included 24 patients who were divided into two groups under general anesthesia: a control group, comprising fasted their last meal day (permitted to drink only water), an ONS consumed 2 h surgery. Biochemical markers, respiratory quotient, psychosomatic scores assessed at initiation Compared group showed significantly lower serum free fatty levels [control group: 828 (729, 1004) µEq/L, 479 (408, 610) P = 0.0002, median (25th, 75th percentile)] total ketone bodies 119 (68, 440) µmol/L, 40 [27, 64] 0.037]. addition, analysis using Visual Analog Scale higher anxiety, hunger, thirst no differences in any other measure subjective well-being between groups. The results study suggest that improves Furthermore, it provide better mental health compared complete fasting.
