ABSTRACT
Abstract Time dependency in tunnel excavation is mainly due to the rheological properties of rock and sequential excavation. In this paper, analytical solutions for deeply buried tunnels with elliptical cross-section excavated linear viscoelastic media are derived accounting process For purpose, an extension principle correspondence solid time varying boundaries formulated first time. An initial anisotropic stress field assumed. To simulate realistically excavation, developed a time-dependent major minor axes changing from zero until final value according functions specified by designers. expressions integral form obtained assuming incompressible generalized Kelvin model rheology mass, Maxwell models solved as particular cases. extensive parametric analysis then performed investigate effects various methods rates. Also distribution displacements stresses space at different times illustrated. Several dimensionless charts ease use practitioners provided.
