ABSTRACT
Abstract To compare the inter-rater reliability (IRR) of five clinical rating scales for video-based assessment hemifacial spasm (HFS) motor severity. We evaluated video recordings 45 HFS participants recruited through Dystonia Coalition. In Round 1, six clinicians with expertise in assessed participants’ severity used to measure HFS: Jankovic scale (JRS), Hemifacial Spasm Grading Scale (HSGS), Samsung Medical Center (SMC) grading system spasms (Lee’s scale), intensity (Chen’s and a modified version Abnormal Involuntary Movement (Tunc’s scale). 2, rated same cohort simplified wording after consensus training. For each round, we IRR using intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC (2,1) single-rater, absolute-agreement, 2-way random model]. The exhibited that ranged from “poor” “moderate”; mean ICCs were 0.41, 0.43, 0.47, 0.65 JRS, HSGS, Lee’s, Chen’s, Tunc’s scales, respectively, 1. corresponding IRRs increased 0.63, 0.60, 0.59, 0.53, 0.71. both rounds, highest IRR. assessments based on observations, recommend because its comparative interpret easily without modifications or need
